“ The people who make the slices, the people who eat the slices, the shops and the blocks that they rest on.” An unusual premise and the first of it’s kind, the brilliantly executed The New York Pizza Project is a sumptuous coffee table book all pizza lovers must have in their library. The impressive book, created and published by Gabe Zimmer, Nick Johnson, Ian Manheimer, Corey Mintz, and Tim Reitzes, are all native New Yorkers. While the New York Pizza Project has striking photos of New York’s favorite food, it’s principal focus is on the people and places behind New York’s pizza. The five New Yorkers visited over 100 pizzerias over the last five years. They interviewed and photographed customers, employees and owners across the five boroughs. The result is indeed a reverent look at New York’s pizza institution. What better way to celebrate New York’s ubiquitous and amazing pizza?
