Magical Diner en Blanc III – A Flash Mob Picnic?

Ok, so this is going to be a long post. (Sorry to those of you who like my brief blips) Diner en Blanc started approximately 20 years ago in Paris. This is the 3rd year it is in NYC. Last year it was at Lincoln Center; the first year it was on the water at Battery Park Plaza. It is actually Wednesday afternoon, September 18th as I write this, getting ready to leave for New York City. But we still don’t know the location of this flash-mob like picnic! This is what I have packed: portable, lightweight table and 2 chairs, white linen tablecloth and napkins, battery operated candles, plates and silverware (no plastic allowed!) wine glasses, (you get wine there) and the FOOD. For dinner, I packed fresh cold lobster for our appetizer, filet, wild rice with cranberries and green beans with almonds. Dessert is a coconut cake. It is from Cups and Cakes in Rumson. Now, it is Thursday morning and I will finish this post. We carried all the paraphernalia on two luggage carts and shlepped through the subway and streets of NYC with thousands of other people dressed in white! It was on the grass at Bryant Park and it was a perfect night. Diner en Blanc is held in many cities throughout the world.
