The End of Summer Fireman’s Fair

Sadly, Summer must come to an end at some point. In my town, the last splash is symbolized by the Fireman’s Fair. It is always the week before school starts. For some reason, people come from all over the county for this fair. I suppose the attraction has something to do with the small town, Mayberry R.F.D. nature of our community.

Monday night, I had the enormous pleasure of going to the local fair with my self-appointed godchild. Since my children are all grown (only one is left living in our house), I haven’t gone with a child to the Fair, much less accompany one on a ride, in more years than I would like to admit. So this was a particularly memorable night for me. She held my hand, we rode on The Crazy Bus together, The Groovy Bus and another silly named ride that I cannot remember. And, she let me kiss her in public! I am one lucky self-appointed godmother.
