Working beside a great artist is inspiring, but doing so to benefit a charity is something else entirely. Last week, I had the pleasure of experiencing this when I stood beside pop icon and collage expert, Cey Adams. Cey (pronounced SAY) led a workshop as part of a charity event sponsored by Cancer Hope Network. The event was hosted by another gifted artist, Gary Lichtenstein of Gary Lichtenstein Editions. Gary’s studio occupies 10,000 square feet in the newly renovated Mana Fine Arts Building, one of the many warehouses being revitalized in an ongoing effort towards revamping Jersey City. It was a special evening for a special cause.
Cancer Hope Network provides free one-on-one support to adult cancer patients and their loved ones. Each of their volunteers is at least one-year post-treatment or successfully undergoing maintenance therapies. They offer support from diagnosis, through treatment and into recovery. Cancer Hope Network serves cancer patients in the United States and Canada.
After participating in the event, I have a newfound appreciation for how meticulous and time-consuming the art of collage actually is. I really enjoyed seeing what went into the process and how different everyone’s collages turned out.
Cancer Hope Network provides a wonderful service, and it felt meaningful to work together to support their efforts for cancer patients.
