Last Thursday, my husband and I attended the sixth edition of Diner en Blanc New York. Do you remember the weather last Thursday? How cool, dry and delicious the air was? That was the day. What a gift! What a treat! What a fabulous night! We have been going to Diner en Blanc since 2011. Each year it has a different vibe and the weather plays a huge part in that. Last year, the weather was 95 degrees (it truly was, I just checked the history on accuweather.com) with what felt like 100% humidity. Although it was “lovely”, you couldn’t get away from the fact that it was absurdly hot.

Let’s get back to last Thursday. Our rendezvous – Columbus Circle – point A. The destination – Robert F. Wagner Park, just north of The Battery – point B.  Because point A and point B were so far from each other, we were required to take a subway down to Rector Place. This meant going down and then up the stairs to the subway with our heavy carts packed with all our stuff . This is quite a feat, as well as an accomplishment. I don’t have any pictures of this because how does one take pictures when one is struggling with a heavy cart down and up said steps? Everyone helps everyone else and we made it as I knew we would.  The main party area was between Pier A and the Museum of Jewish Heritage, and the party extends into the gardens, grasses and waterfront walkways of Robert F. Wagner Park. As the sun was setting, the sky was pink, purple, orange and blue, and we had unparalleled views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

I wore white jeans, a white tee-shirt, and a white blazer, but people wear fabulous hats, boas, white gloves, necklaces and dress exquisitely in all white! The tablescapes are also done with over the top creativity. It makes you wonder how they do this especially because of all of the accessories, hanging lanterns, lighting, flowers and vases that have to be carried from point A to point B. It’s true most of the people that attend Diner en Blanc are young, but I still don’t know how they carry all their stuff? Go to untapped cities for all the best images of the night.

By the way, our dinner was lobster, sushi, corn salad, bulgar wheat with zucchini and raisins, and our drink of choice  . . . bellinis.  Of course, dessert was the icing on the cake!  Chocolate chip cookies, a peanut butter chocolate concoction that was truly yummy and an oreo brownie that was irresistible. LOVED. EVERY. BITE. (and sip!) Already looking forward to next year!
