Bluestone Lane Cafe – NYC

I know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of cafes in New York City that have excellent food. It’s what the city is known for, right? Over the years, we have tried many and to be quite honest, more often than not, have been disappointed. The reviews all say the same thing “A new cafe has taken the lunch scene by storm in Soho (or the UWS or the Meat Packing District) with their extraordinary food and beautiful interior blah blah blah.” Then the food is quite ordinary and the bill is not, if you know what I mean. I went to the city yesterday with my daughter and we were up by Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue, and happened upon Bluestone Lane Cafe, between 89th and 90th. Since the cafe is situated inside the Church of the Heavenly Rest, the interior of this particular location has soaring arches that create an atmosphere unlike any other cafe in New York. Warm and charming, but not old fashioned, the cafe was featured in Architectural Digest and recently received an award from design100 as a 2016 New York Design award winner.

I had the Toasted Banana Bread topped with fresh ricotta, toasted pecans, fresh berries and drizzled with honey. Yes, it was as ridiculous as it sounds. Crazy good. My daughter had the Brekkie Board – half portions of Avocado Smash &  their Collective Granola. She was equally thrilled with her plate of deliciousness. Somehow, I missed their legendary coffee and I could cry. Little did I know they are known for their coffee and I am feeling very sorry for myself. Bluestone Lane Cafe is now my go-to for Brunch or Lunch when I am in New York.
